GRP Fibreglass Shallow Pitched Roof
The client in Rye approached us to replace a failing shallow pitched roof over a sunroom in a beautiful setting in Rye, Kent. The previous contractor had tiled the roof in interlocking tiles. Unfortunately they were not suitable for the low pitch. This pitch was calculated to be under 12degrees not the recommend 15degree minimum for these tiles and hence leaks were occurring. Therefore the decision was taken for RT Alkin to install GRP Fibreglass roofing. For this project we used 2 layers of topcoat over 450 gram per sqm matting. (what is this?)
GRP Fibreglass can technically be laid on ‘Flat’ Roofs. However there is no such thing as a completely flat roof (or there shouldn’t be). Whilst anything under a 10 Degree Pitch is generally considered a flat roof, to allow adequate run off and prevent puddling a slight fall with minimum 1degree pitch is always created. This is usually achieved by installing firring pieces (a strip of timber cut diagonally to taper) underneath the OSB boarding prior to installing Fibreglass matting and Top Coat.
This GRP roof is finished in traditional anthracite grey. The new roof gives the client peace of mind for the lifecycle of the roof and lets them enjoy their wonderful view of the military canal and Rye beyond.
